Description |
During WWII, the Churchill Hospital in Oxford was used as a base hospital for both American and British soldiers wounded in action, and those suffering from various ailments such as frostbite or exposure. Lee Miller’s first written article for British Vogue in May 1943 describes the fully qualified American nurses as being part of a reverse lease-lend arrangement with America. Many famous US hospitals had organised mobile hospital units before the country joined WWII, so they were well-prepared to move into a war zone at a moments notice.
